Biography

Davide Bedognetti was born in Chiavenna (SO) on March 4th, 1979. He is an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Genoa and Director of the Cancer Research Department at Sidra Medicine, Doha, Qatar, an academic and healthcare institution with over 4,000 highly specialized genomic employees. Professor Bedognetti’s research focuses on the characterization of immune response biomarkers in tumors through genomic and systems biology technologies. He graduated in medicine and surgery from the University of Genoa in 2004 and completed his specialization in Oncology in 2008. In 2009, he moved to the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, US (Infectious Diseases and Immunogenetics Section, led by Prof. Francesco Marincola), where he refined his research in tumor immunology and, in particular, in identifying prognostic and clinical response immunomarkers using high-throughput techniques, earning a PhD from the University of Genoa, in partnership with the NIH, in 2012. From 2013-2014, he served as Director of the Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies (FOCIS) Center of Excellence at the NIH Clinical Center. He then moved to Doha in 2014 to develop a tumor immunology program in Qatar at a new national research center (Sidra Medicine). Since then, he has served as Principal Investigator and then Director of the Cancer Research Department, which currently has a staff of 25 people, including 4 research groups. He is also an Associate Professor at Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Doha, an affiliate of Sidra Medicine, and since 2020, he has been an Associate Professor at the University of Genoa through direct appointment by the Ministry of University and Research. He has received numerous awards for his scientific activities, including the Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (2011) and the Galileo Galilei Giovani Ricercatori Award (2012). He is an active member of the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer, where he has held various positions, including Chair of the Early Career Scientists Committee and member of the Cancer Immune Responsiveness Taskforce. He is the Editor of the Cancer Microenvironment Section of the Journal of Translational Medicine and a member of the Editorial Board of Scientific Reports and Cancer Treatment Reviews. Davide Bedognetti is the author of over 90 peer-reviewed international publications with a Scopus H index of 29 and 3,000 total citations. Professor Davide Bedognetti will be the Responsible Director of the Immunomics Area and will sit on the Scientific Board of IMMUNOMICA.
